Surprise Canyon

Our final day in the Grand Canyon was spent at our campsite at Surprise Canyon. We waited out the day because we wanted to do our final 30 miles to Lake Mead as a night float. That night we had a full moon and the night float is something many groups do to avoid paddling during the heat of the day on this long final stretch. During this day we had a lot of down time and I was able to paint this little piece of our final campsite. We spent this day hanging out together, hiking Surprise Canyon, cliff jumping into the deep waters of an eddy, and playing music together. I felt conflicted. I was ready to leave the canyon, take a shower, and drink an ice cold drink... but at the same time I felt myself already missing the canyon. This painting sums up the trip for me in my final day.
