Smith Rock State Park is an icon in the climbing world. Much of our modern climbing techniques have been developed right here. These red and orange walls tower out of the middle of the dessert and create essential ecosystems for a multitude of species like the Golden Eagle. Whenever I hike down to the Crooked River, I love how dwarfed I feel next to these rock walls. This is a special place for me because of the beauty, nature, and this was where I did my first lead climb.
