Fort Rock Thunder was inspired by my time spent volunteering at Harmony Farms Sanctuary where I feed the horses every Tuesday. One of these Tuesday mornings, I was driving home and enjoying the vast high desert landscape flashing past my window. Up ahead a huge cloud was forming a thunderhead. With this in mind, I came home and began sketching horses and storms. I knew I wanted this painting to be located in Central Oregon and I landed on Fort Rock. Jeremiah and I visited Fort Rock last fall and I loved the way this massive cliff seems to pop out of nowhere in the middle of the desert plains. I brought all of these elements together with the spicy strike of lightning and created this wild piece. To me, this painting encapsulates the wild west in all its glory with the storm, the mustangs, and Fort Rock in the distance.
