Follow Your Heart Compass

Follow Your Heart Compass

We have all been in the conversation where you ask someone, “What do you want to do?” And they respond with, “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” And it goes back and forth for way too long until you land on something, ANYTHING, just to make a decision. My husband and I decided to break up the monotony by creating a game called “Follow your heart compass.” To play the game, when someone gives you the directive to follow your heart compass, you MUST oblige. The person who gave the directive must come along for the ride and do whatever you want to do. This silly game began to evolve into more of a life motto for the two of us. We followed our heart compass across the country to Oregon, started our own businesses, and we've found exactly what it is that makes each of our hearts tick.

Thus, the Heart Compass Creative was born. It’s time for me to follow my passion and create art, write, and do my best to share beautiful things with the world. I can’t wait to see where the journey goes from here.

Most of the ideas for my writing and paintings are sparked while out in nature. I am an avid adventure seeker. Whether I’m on a rope, rock climbing, sliding down the mountain on skis, or jumping into my local river, I am always ready to immerse myself in the elements. The world is beautiful and I have had the privilege to wander amongst the wild and untamed places. I have seen an octopus reach up and touch the bow of my sea kayak before shooting off into the cold waters of New Zealand. I have caved in the muddy clay caves of North Carolina where all sound and light from above disappears completely. In the pitch dark, the sounds of your own breathing and heartbeat are all you hear. I have climbed numerous mountain peaks, each with its own earth-shattering view. I know that not everyone has the desire to visit the other side of the world, to crawl beneath the earth, or to rise above it, but I seek to touch the wild and share a little piece of it with you through my writing.

Most importantly, I strive to encourage others to follow their own heart compass. You may be surprised by how alive you feel when you are following the pull of your heartstrings.

Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
